Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be aged-out of DFPS foster care or was legally emancipated.
  2. Must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 and in good academic standing.
  3. Must demonstrate a need for financial assistance with higher education.
  4. Must be attending or enrolled in a Texas college or university.
  5. Must be majoring in government, political science, history, or other pre-law field.
  6. Must be enrolled as a full-time (12 hours) sophomore, junior, and senior student or in law school.
  7. Must be between the ages of 18 - 25 to “activate" the scholarship.
  8. Must have completed the Preparation for Adult Living (PAL) Life Skills Training Program.

Description: The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services offers two C. Ed Davis PAL Scholarships for youth who aged out or were legally emancipated of the DFPS foster care. Applicants must major in law, government, political science, history or pre law.

Application requirements for the C. Ed Davis PAL Scholarship are:

Additional Information: Applications received will be reviewed at least 3 months prior to the start of each semester. Decisions regarding scholarship awards will be made by August 1 (for the Fall semester) or November 1 (for the Spring semester). Notification and distribution of a scholarship award will occur within 45 days before the start of each semester of the academic period. Students may submit a new application and supporting documents each academic year until the age of 25. Scholarships will be awarded to two (2) students each academic year and are subject to the availability of funds General Eligibility Requirements include: These scholarships are for basic non-tuition needs for students interested in the field of law and majoring in government, political science, history, or other pre-law fields. Scholarships will be awarded to two (2) students each academic year and are subject to the availability of funds.

Award Amount: $1,000 awards offered. Students will receive $500 per semester.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.
