Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be enrolled in, and have completed at least one year of study, at an accredited law school at the time of application.
  2. Must be a resident of Dutchess County, New York.
  3. Must be majoring in law.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available for residents of Dutchess County New York who have completed at least one year of law school at the time of application. Academic merit and financial need will be considered during the selection process.

Additional Information: Created by the law firm of Gellert & Klein P.C. in honor of its founder The Honorable Joseph H. Gellert, and supplemented by members of the community through the Dutchess County Community Foundation, this scholarship seeks to assist in the educational expenses of a local area student who is pursuing a degree in law.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online from the Community Foundation of Hudson Valley website at the address provided. In addition to the completed application, each applicant must submit two letters of recommendation (one academic and one personal); a copy of his/her most recent transcript; a copy of the student's Student Aid Report (SAR) and Expected Family Contribution (EFC) information; and an essay of approximately 500 words responding to the prompt listed on the application. The Student Aid Report (SAR) is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Applications must be completed online by the deadline date.
