Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must enroll full time.
  3. Must be pursuing a master's degree in health education.
  4. Must demonstrate three years of teaching experience in a middle or high school.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must plan to pursue a graduate degree.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Graduate students enrolled full time in a master's in health education program who are committed grade school teachers are eligible for this award.

Application requirements for the Marion B. Pollock Fellowship are:

  • Written Narrative
Additional Information: The fellowship recipient will be recognized at the annual awards luncheon at the SOPHE convention. Recipients will also receive a one-year complimentary student membership in SOPHE. The professional preparation program the applicant is enrolled in must be preparing the applicant to develop, implement or evaluate health education programs for children and youth. At the end of the academic program, the applicant must be willing to present a brief written description of the contribution made that advances the goals of the health education profession.

Award Amount: $3,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Applications are available on the Society for Publuc Health Education (SOPHE) website. In addition to the completed application, each student must submit: a current resume using the categories listed on the SOPHE website; a transcript from the institution granting his/her most recent degree and any coursework that fulfills requirements for the current degree program; a five page double-spaced written narrative describing the role of school health education in meeting the current health needs of children and youth, the applicant’s personal and professional goals, and how the educational program is going to advance the health of children and youth; and three letters of recommendation (one from his/her academic advisor or faculty member in his/her department). All application materials must be submitted as one word, pdf, or image and received by the deadline date.
