Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be currently teaching K-12 gifted education.
  4. Must have been a member of the National Association for Gifted Children for one year or more.
  5. Must be receiving advanced training in gifted education.
  6. Must provide evidence of admittance to an accredited graduate program in gifted education, a certification program in gifted education, or a cohesive program of study.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available for U.S. college graduate students who are currently teaching K-12 gifted education. Students must have been a member of the National Association for Gifted Children for one year or more and be returning to college to receive advanced training in gifted education.

Additional Information: The National Association for Gifted Children awards the A. Harry Passow Classroom Teacher Scholarship to teachers of grades K-12 who have shown excellence in teaching gifted students, the ability to meet the needs of gifted students, and commitment to furthering the development of their teaching skills. The scholarship is designed to reimburse/defray the costs of continuing education for eligible teachers currently teaching gifted students in a variety of educational settings ranging from a homogeneous or full-day special class to a heterogeneous classroom. A teacher may receive this award only once.

Award Amount: The successful nominee(s) will each receive a scholarship to reimburse costs up to $2,000 annually, non-renewable. The teacher will receive half the scholarship when the award is given in November at the NAGC Annual Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, and the remaining half of the scholarship upon receipt of an official transcript and a two-page review of his/her coursework (see the NAGC website for additional details).  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Information about the A. Harry Passow Classroom Teacher Scholarship can be found on the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) website. There is no formal application for this award, but rather, the applicant must be nominated for this award. Self-nominations are encouraged. The applicant must submit a letter of nomination; evidence of acceptance at an accredited college or university (in a degree, graduate, or certification program in gifted education); a summary of the work the applicant plans to pursue; two letters of endorsement (one letter must be from a parent of a student with whom the teacher has worked or from a former student, the other letter must be from the teacher's principal and/or supervisor or from a current teaching colleague); and a copy of his/her vita. The person nominating the teacher for this scholarship must submit the required application materials listed; the endorsement letters must be sent separately. All application materials must be submitted online by the deadline.
