Number of Awards & Eligibility: One or two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must reside in the Ohio Valley AIST Chapter area (Southern Indiana, Kentucky, Western Tennessee and Southern Ohio).
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  3. This award is for U.S. students.
  4. Must be a high school senior or undergraduate at the time of application.
  5. Must be majoring in engineering.
  6. Must be pursuing a career in the iron and steel industry.
  7. Must be enrolled or planning to enroll on a full time basis.

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. high school seniors and undergraduate students in the Ohio Valley Region (Southern Indiana, Kentucky, Western Tennessee and Southern Ohio) who are planning to major in engineering and pursue a career in iron and steel technology. Applicants must be AIST members or dependents of AIST members.

Application requirements for the AIST Ohio Valley Member Chapter are:

  • Application form
  • Essay
  • Resume
  • Recommendation Form
  • Copy of ACT/SAT Score Report
Additional Information: Administered by the AIST Ohio Valley Member Chapter, available to students who are dependents of Ohio Valley Member Chapter members or to student members pursuing an education in engineering, metallurgy, physical science, computer technology or an engineering technology field. AIST Foundation Scholarship awards are intended to attract talented and dedicated students and to encourage them to pursue careers within the iron and steel industry. The AIST Foundation Board of Trustees administers the scholarships. Please note: Students must be AIST members or dependents of AIST members to apply for this award.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, renewable for up to three additional years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.

Applications are available online on the Association for Iron and Steel Technology (AIST) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: a current resume with work experience and any extracurricular activities, noting any leadership positions; one essay of one or two pages describing one of the topics on the application; a completed recommendation form; a copy of SAT and/or ACT test score reports; and a current high school or college transcript. The application and all supporting materials must be submitted by email or postal mail and must be received no later than the deadline date.
