$2,500 annually, renewable for one additional year. The second-year funding is dependent on successful completion of the first year. AMS may terminate a scholarship when a student in no longer in good academic standing, when a student is no longer a full-time student, or when a student is no longer enrolled in a program preparing for a degree in the atmospheric and related oceanic or hydrologic sciences, as determined by AMS.
The number of awards offered varies annually and is dependent on funding. Last year, 14 awards were offered.
The evaluation of applicants will be based on the applicant's performance in high school, including academic records, recommendation, scores from a national college exam, and a written essay. Selections will be made by the AMS Executive Committee based on recommendations from the AMS Committee of Judges for Undergraduate Awards. The AMS does not prepare written evaluations of either successful or unsuccessful candidates. The announcement of winners is expected to be made in May. Please note: Students who are eligible for both this award and the AMS Minority Scholarship may apply to both programs, but may only accept one.
