Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually and is dependent on funding. Last year, 23 scholarships were awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher.
  4. Must enroll full time.
  5. Must be entering his/her final year of undergraduate study in the upcoming fall semester.
  6. Must be pursuing a degree in the atmospheric or related sciences.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: U.S. students entering their final year of undergraduate study in the upcoming fall semester are eligible for this award. Students must have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher and be pursuing a degree in the atmospheric or related sciences.

Additional Information: The Society encourages applications from women, minorities, and disabled students, traditionally underrepresented in the atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences. The evaluation of applicants will be based on the applicant's performance as an undergraduate student, including academic records and recommendations. Final selections will be made by the AMS Executive Committee. The AMS does not prepare written evaluations of either successful or unsuccessful candidates.

Award Amount: The stipend amount varies and is dependent on funding. All awards are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications are available online from the American Meteorological Society (AMS) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following materials: official transcripts through and including the fall semester from all schools attended (high school transcripts not accepted); three written references from individuals familiar with his/her course work and/or other academic achievements; and responses to the three essay questions posed within the application (100 to 200 words each). Completed applications and written references will be accepted via email or postal mail. Official transcripts must be submitted via postal mail. All applications must be received or postmarked by the deadline date, with supporting materials postmarked no later than a week after the application deadline.
