Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to 39 awards offered annually. One award is available for each named scholarship. In addition, several general awards are available as follows: up to four awards for sophomores; and up to 21 awards for juniors and seniors.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be enrolled in a course of study leading to a degree in nuclear science, nuclear engineering or a nuclear-related field.
  4. Must be a full-time student.
  5. Must be a college sophomore or older in the upcoming academic year.
  6. Must be a student member of the American Nuclear Society (ANS).

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. college sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are enrolled in a course of study leading to a degree in nuclear science, nuclear engineering or a nuclear-related field.

Additional Information: The named scholarships included under this program are the following: the Angelo S. Bisesti Scholarship, the Joseph R. Dietrich Scholarship; the Raymond DiSalvo Scholarship; the Charles (Tommy) Thomas Memorial Scholarship (formerly the Environmental Sciences Division Scholarship); the Robert G. Lacy Scholarship; the John R. Lamarsh Scholarship; the Robert T. (Bob) Liner Scholarship; the Decommissioning, Decontamination and Reutilization Scholarship; the William R. and Mila Kimel Scholarship; the Accelerator Applications Division Scholarship; the Pittsburgh Local Section Scholarship; ANS Washington, DC Section Undergraduate Scholarship; Operations and Power Division Scholarship; and the James R. Vogt Radiochemistry Scholarship (available to an undergraduate or graduate student).

Award Amount: The following scholarships are worth $2,000 each: sophomore; junior/senior; Dietrich; Accelerator; Kimel; Liner; Bisesti; DD&RD; DiSalvo; Lacy; Pittsburgh and Lamarsh. These awards are offered annually and are non-renewable. The Operations and Power scholarship is worth $2,500 annually, non-renewable. The Thomas and Vogt scholarships are worth $3,000 annually, non-renewable. The Accelerator Applications Division Scholarship is worth $1,000 annually, renewable for one additional year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,053.

Applications are available online on the American Nuclear Society (ANS) website. Applicants must check the appropriate box on the application for the specific scholarship(s) for which they are applying. In addition to the completed application, the applicant must also include official school transcripts with a seal; a sponsorship letter from an ANS organization; and three confidential reference letters. Certain scholarships require some materials in addition to those listed above. The student should check the application to be sure he/she is submitting all required materials. It is required that the application and all of the required materials be mailed together in one package and sent to ANS headquarters to the attention of the scholarship coordinator. The application should be in the mail at least seven days prior to the deadline date so that it is received by the deadline date.
