Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must major in political science.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  4. Must be a member of one of the following racial/ethnic groups: African Americans, Asian Pacific Americans, Latino/as or Native Americans (federal- and state-recognized tribes).
  5. Must be a college senior OR college graduate OR a student enrolled in a master's program and currently applying for doctoral study at another political science program/institution.
  6. Must have an interest in teaching.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available for African American, Asian Pacific American, Latino, and Native American U.S. citizens who are enrolled or planning to enroll in a Ph.D. program for political science.   • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Official Transcript
  • Recommendation letters (2/3)
  • Resume
Additional Information: The APSA Minority Fellows Program, was established in 1969 as an effort to increase the number of minority scholars in the discipline, has designated more than 300 fellows and contributed to the successful completion of doctoral political science programs for over 70 individuals. The association has refocused and increased its efforts to assist minority students in completing their doctorates by concentrating not only on the recruitment of minorities, but also on the retention of these groups within the profession. The applicant must demonstrate financial need. Awards are based on the student's undergraduate coursework, grade point average, extracurricular activities, and recommendations from faculty.

Award Amount: $4,000 disbursed in two payments over two years. The payments will be made at the end of each academic year, provided that the student is in good academic standing.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.
