In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a resident of Ashley County in Arkansas.
  4. Must be a single parent with sole custody of one or more children under the age of 18.
  5. Must be the head of the household.
  6. Must be a full-time student (enrolled for 12 or more credit hours) or a part-time student (enrolled for 9 credit hours).
  7. Must have and maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
  8. Must be a high school graduate and/or GED recipient or older and be pursuing an undergraduate course of study or vocational-oriented program. Students cannot have already earned an undergraduate degree, with the exception of those students pursuing a Master of Arts in Education.
  9. Must be single, divorced, or widowed.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Single parents residing in Ashley County in Arkansas who are head of households with sole custody of one or more children under the age of 18. Students must be high school graduates or have obtained a GED, plan to enroll full time, and have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.

Application requirements for the Ashley County Single Parent Scholarship are:

  • Personal statement
  • Proof of residence
  • Enrollment/acceptance proof
Additional Information: The scholarship was created to provide supplemental financial assistance to single parents who are pursuing a course of instruction that will improve their income-earning potential. Please note: The applicant must be the recipient of or have applied for a Pell Grant. Applying for a Pell Grant is done by filing a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices.

Award Amount: Up to $500 per semester, non-renewable. Students must complete a new application for each semester that a scholarship is sought. The scholarship may be used for tuition, books, utility bills, car maintenance, or any other financial need that contributes to the recipient's success in school.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

Applications are available online on the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund (ASPSF) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit digital copies of the following items: verification of Ashley County residence (utility bills in his/her name, a copy of a paid Ashley County real estate tax receipt, or a copy of a paid personal property taxes receipt); a copy of his/her most recent transcript (either high school or college); a verification document of enrollment/acceptance from the registrar's office at his/her institution; three typed and signed letters of recommendation from people who are familiar with his/her character and goals (may be from a current or former employer, pastor, high school personnel, college or vocational instructor or adviser, or someone who can speak about his/her volunteerism or community service); a typed statement of goals, which should explain why a particular course of study is chosen and what he/she hopes to achieve. Please note: The scholarship committee may also require proof of income, custody, and/or marital status. All required forms and electronic documents must be submitted online no later than the deadline date. Application deadlines are as follows: July 15 for the fall semester; and January 15 for the spring semester.
