Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, 39 scholarships were awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must major in engineering or physical science (physics, chemistry, mathematics, computer science, etc.) with the intention to pursue research or advance his/her field upon completion of a final degree. An applicant intending on pursuing a practice in professional medicine is not considered. An applicant intending to do biomedical research is considered.
  4. Must be at least a second-year (sophomore) college student at time of application. This award is awarded during the junior or senior year of college.
  5. Must attend one of the cooperating institutions listed on the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation website.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available for U.S. college juniors, seniors, or graduate students who are majoring in engineering or physical science (physics, chemistry, mathematics, computer science, etc.) at an eligible institution.

Application requirements for the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF) Scholarship are:

Additional Information: Nominees must be at least third-year college students, have excellent grades, and must have participated in lab and research work in their fields. Special consideration is not given to aeronautical/astronautical engineering students or those intending to pursue careers as astronauts. Special consideration is given to students who have shown initiative, creativity, excellence and/or resourcefulness in their field. One recipient from each institution is selected from the two nominees, based upon the required packages of individualized information provided by the schools.

Award Amount: The amount of each award varies annually. Last year, scholarships were awarded in the amount of $10,000. All awards are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.

Additional information is available online from the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation website. A student may not apply directly for the scholarship. The student must be nominated by a faculty or staff member in his/her department to a university-wide committee which must submit two nominees to the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF) Scholarship Committee.
