Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be enrolled in an eligible two- or four-year degree program.
  3. Must major in surveying (or a closely related field, such as geomatics or surveying engineering).
  4. Must enroll full time.

Description: This award is for U.S. and international undergraduate students who are majoring in surveying or surveying technology. Students planning to graduate prior to December 2018 are not eligible. Please note: The award for two-year students is offered only in even-numbered years.

Application requirements for the Berntsen International Scholarship in Surveying are:

  • Proof of membership
Additional Information: This scholarship is awarded by Berntsen International, Inc. of Madison, Wisconsin. Scholarships are awarded based on the following criteria: academic record, 30 percent; applicant's statement, 30 percent; letters of recommendation, 20 percent; professional activities, 20 percent. Degree of financial need will be used, if necessary, to break ties, after the primary criteria have been considered.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Please Note: the Berntsen International Scholarship in Surveying is provided only in even numbered years. The next time awards are expected to be offered is in January of 2020. Please check back in November of 2019 for updated information about this scholarship program. Applications are available on the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS) Foundation website. In addition to the completed application, the applicant must submit the following materials: a brief, yet complete, statement indicating educational objectives, future plans of study or research, professional activities, and financial need; three or more letters of recommendation (at least two from faculty members familiar with his/her work); a complete, original, official transcript through the end of the school year prior to when the award will be presented; and a copy of his/her unofficial transcript for the fall semester (as soon as it is available). Please note: The applicant must be a student member of the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS) to qualify for this award. The applicant may apply for membership in NSPS at the time of application. The applicant should mail all materials in one envelope. Applications sent by fax or email will not be accepted. Incomplete or improperly completed applications will be discarded. Applications must arrive at NSPS headquarters no later than 5:00 p.m. EST on the deadline date. Late applications will not be accepted.
