Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three awards offered annually; one for first place, second place and third place. Note: The association may choose to award a fourth scholarship or ties may be declared provided there are candidates of special merit and sufficient funds.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must major in public relations.
  3. Must be a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA).
  4. Must plan to have a career in public relations.
  5. Must be a current college junior or senior.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Current college students who will be juniors or seniors in the fall term and are members of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) are eligible for this award. Students must be enrolled in a public relations program and plan to have a career in public relations.

Application requirements for the Betsy Plank/PRSSA Scholarship are:

Additional Information: Students will be judged on the following criteria: academic achievement in public relations and overall studies; demonstrated leadership; practical experience, e.g. internships, other jobs, student firm work; and a commitment to public relations, particularly as expressed in the candidate's statement. Winners will be announced and the scholarships will be presented at the annual awards ceremony during the PRSSA National Conference.

Award Amount: Scholarships are awarded as follows: first place, $5,000; second place, $1,500; and third place, $1,000. All awards are given annually and are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Students must be nominated for this scholarship. There is no limit to the number of nominees that a Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter in good standing can submit. Nomination forms are available on the PRSSA website. The form must be completed and signed by the candidate, the faculty, and the professional advisors of the PRSSA chapter of which the candidate is a member. In addition to the nomination form, the candidate must submit the following: a recommendation letter of two pages or less from either the faculty or professional advisor; and a signed statement of no more than 300 words expressing the candidate's commitment to public relations and its ethical practice. Additional letters of recommendation (e.g., from internship employers, other educators, an alternative advisor), limited to two pages each, are welcome but are not required. All materials must be typed, and no materials other than those specified will be reviewed or considered by the judges (i.e., do not send resumes or work samples). All completed nomination forms and supporting materials must be submitted online by the deadline date.
