Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a current graduate school student or a graduate school candidate.
  3. Must enroll at a Kansas college or university.
  4. Must enroll full time.
  5. Must pursue a graduate course of study with a concentration in accounting, as defined by Kansas statutes and the Rules and Regulations of the Kansas Board of Accountancy.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is open to current and incoming graduate students at Kansas colleges/universities who have a concentration in accounting. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of undergraduate academic performance; potential for success in graduate studies; leadership; and participation in community, charitable, university, governmental and/or other civic activities.

Additional Information: The Byron Bird scholarship is named for and originally funded by Byron Bird, CPA, the first recipient of the American Institute of CPAs National Public Service Award. The Board of Trustees of the Educational Foundation selects the scholarship recipient. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of undergraduate academic performance; potential for success in graduate studies; leadership; and participation in community, charitable, university, governmental and/or other civic activities. The recipient of this scholarship is not eligible for any other scholarship awarded by the Educational Foundation of the KSCPA in the same school year.

Award Amount: $3,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in December for a refreshed application deadline date. Applications are available online on the Educational Foundation of the Kansas Society of CPAs (KSCPA) website. Applicants must be nominated by an appropriate staff or faculty member; the nomination form is included with the application. All Kansas colleges and universities are encouraged to select one candidate for the scholarship. In addition to a completed application, each student must submit the following materials: his/her official transcript; a resume; three sealed letters of recommendation of no more than one page in length, two of which must support his/her public service activities; and a wallet-size senior portrait with his/her name written on the back. Application materials must be mailed to the address provided by the deadline date.
