Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  4. Must be a current college sophomore or junior to apply for this junior and/or senior year award.
  5. Must attend Calvin College in Michigan.
  6. Must have been adopted, have a special interest in adoption, or be interested in working in the field of adoptions.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: U.S. students entering their junior or senior year at Calvin College are eligible for this award. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and be adopted, have a special interest in adoption, or an interest in working in the field of adoption.

Application requirements for the Calvin College Richard and Janice Van Deelen Scholarship are:

Additional Information: Selection will be based on the candidate’s academic interest and work/volunteer experiences in the field of adoption, special interest in adoption, interest in working with children, and/or his/her experiences as an adopted child. Financial need as defined by government programs is not required, but there should be some evidence that the scholarship is needed to help meet educational expenses.

Award Amount: $1,900 annually, renewable for an additional year as long as the recipient maintains a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,800.

Applications are available online from the Calvin College Social Work Department scholarship page. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit responses to the two essays listed on the application. Applications must be submitted electronically or to the main office in SC226 by the deadline date.
