Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually. If there is sufficient funding, the GFWC of MA may offer more than one award.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a legal resident of Massachusetts.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  4. Must be studying public health.
  5. Must be an undergraduate or graduate student to apply for this award.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for undergraduate and graduate students who are legal residents of Massachusetts. Students must be studying public health. Applicants must submit a completed application form postmarked no later than March 1 and other needed documentation listed on the provider site.

Application requirements for the Catherine E. Philbin Public Health Scholarship are:

Additional Information: The award winner must notify the GFWC of MA treasurer by mail of the college he/she will attend, college identification number, and address of the office handling student accounts. Each award winner must matriculate at the college of his/her choice no later than February of the year following application. The scholarship winner and one guest will be invited to attend a scholarship luncheon at the GFWC of MA State Convention in May. Further details will be sent to the scholarship recipient upon notification of the award.

Award Amount: $500 annually, non-renewable. The award is for tuition only and will be sent to the recipient's college.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

Applications are available on the General Federation of Women's Clubs of Massachusetts (GFWC of MA) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: a personal statement of no more than 500 words addressing professional goals and financial need; a letter of reference from the department chair of his/her major (must be original on school letterhead); and an official transcript of college grades. All required materials must be sent together (in one package) to the scholarship chairman at the address provided, and must be postmarked by the deadline date.
