  3. Must major in biology, horticulture, or a related field to conduct research on a rare or endangered U.S. plant.
  4. Must be enrolled in a graduate program at time of application.

Description: This grant is available for a graduate student studying biology, horticulture, or a related field to conduct research on a rare or endangered U.S. plant. Preference is given to students focusing on the endangered flora of the Carolinas or southeastern United States.

Additional Information: Preference will be given to students focusing on the endangered flora of the Carolinas or southeastern United States. Selection will be based on the excellence of the student’s personal and academic qualifications, and on the anticipated contribution of the project to the conservation of rare and endangered plants. The fellowship recipient will be notified by March 31. The successful applicant should be prepared to write an article for 'Plant Conservation,' the newsletter of the Center for Plant Conservation, and submit a written report on his/her project results.

Award Amount: $1,000 to $4,500 annually, non-renewable. The grant will serve as compensation for work done by a graduate student, often at a botanical garden jointly serving CPC and that student's curricular studies.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,750.

Application information is available on the Center for Plant Conservation (CPC) website. There is not a separate application for this award.To apply, the student must submit the following materials: a summary sheet stating the proposal's title, research/study location and name of the institution where he/she is currently enrolled; a two-page proposal, including a description of the proposed research project and how it relates to the student's academic and professional development; an itemized budget for the funds requested; a current resume; a letter of endorsement by an academic adviser from the institution where the student is pursuing graduate studies; the names of three additional persons qualified to describe the student's character and abilities; and official transcripts of both undergraduate and graduate academic records.Applications must be emailed to the address listed and must be received by the CPC by the deadline date.
