The minimum award amount is $1,000, but the student may receive a higher amount if more funding is available. This award is non-renewable. The scholarship can be used only as a credit toward tuition, fees or books.
The number of awards offered varies annually and is dependent on funding and the number of qualified applicants. Last year, one award was offered.
In the early '90's SME Chapter 105 Memphis created an endowed scholarship account with the SME Education Foundation. The chapter added additional funding in 2007 to fully endow the scholarship. The scholarship is named in memory of Les Segar a prominent member of Chapter 105. The members of Chapter 105 involved with completing this endowed scholarship include: Mike Harrison, Carl Williams, Daniel Teasler, Jim Whitehead, Tom Banning, Greg Sullivan, Lorelei Hudspeth and Garland Smith.
