Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund

Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually based on the number of qualified applicants.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Cross County, Arkansas.
  3. Must be the head of the household.
  4. Must be single, legally separated, divorced or widowed.
  5. Must have sole custody of at least one child under the age of 18.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  7. Must be a current college student enrolled full time or part time.
  8. Must be at or within $350 of the federal poverty level figured on a monthly basis.
  9. Must be a high school graduate or equivalent or be currently enrolled as an undergraduate. The student may apply if in the process of obtaining a GED diploma.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for single parents who are residents of Cross County, AR and who have not obtained a bachelor's degree. The student must be pursuing a vocationally oriented undergraduate course of study to be eligible.

Application requirements for the Cross County Single Parent Scholarship are:

  • Application form

  • Recommendation letter (3)
  • Personal statement
  • Enrollment proof
  • Pell Grant award/denial letter
Additional Information: The purpose of the Single Parent Scholarship Fund is to provide supplemental financial assistance to those single parents who are pursuing a course of instruction which will improve their income-earning potentials. The scholarships are made possible by private donations. Any applicant who has already earned an undergraduate degree is not eligible for this award, with the exception of those pursuing a Master of Arts in teaching.

Award Amount: Up to $500 per semester, non-renewable. Students must reapply for each semester that funding is sought. Scholarships may be used for tuition, books, utility bills, car maintenance, childcare, or any other financial need.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

Applications are available on the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund (ASPSF) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must also submitdigital copies of the following items: verification of college/school enrollment or acceptance; a transcript (or copy) of high school or college work (whichever is more recent); a letter from the financial aid officer of his/her educational institution stating Pell Grant approval or denial; three letters of recommendation from people other than family members who are familiar with his/her character and goals; and a statement of his/her goals. Please note: If the applicant was denied for a Pell Grant, income verification is also required, in addition to all other materials (page 5 of the application contains a list of items to be verified). The completed application and supporting materials must be submitted online by the deadline date for the semester in which funding is sought.
