Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must plan to major in any garden- or environmental-related subject.
  3. Must be a resident of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, or Tennessee.
  4. Must plan to attend a college in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, or Tennessee.
  5. Must enroll as a full-time student.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  7. Must be a college sophomore, upperclass undergraduate, or non-doctoral graduate student at the time of application.
  8. Must have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available for college sophomores, juniors, seniors, and non-doctoral graduate students who are residents of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, or Tennessee. Students must be enrolled full time at a college or university in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, or Tennessee, must be majoring in an environmental-related field, must and have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher.

Application requirements for the Deep South Region Scholarship are:

  • Personal statement
  • Recommendation letter (3)
  • Statement of Financial Need
Additional Information: Selection is based on academic record, financial need, recommendations, and commitment to career. The scholarship winner will be announced at the annual convention.

Award Amount: $3,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Applications are available on the Deep South Region of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. (DSR) website. The student's application packet must include the following: a completed application form; a completed 'Statement of Financial Need' form (page 3 of the application), signed by the financial aid officer at his/her college or university; a transcript of high school work; a personal letter of one page or less discussing his/her background, goals, and interests; and three letters of recommendation, from no more than two of his/her high school teachers, and a civic or religious leader in his/her community. The complete application packet must be submitted to the student's state scholarship chairperson. A list of the state chairs and their contact information is available on the application. The application must be received by the state chair no later than the deadline date. The state chair will then forward one application from each state to the Deep South Region Chair to be received by Feb. 15.
