Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a currently enrolled upper division or graduate student.
  3. Must be enrolled full time.
  4. Must be enrolled in an accredited California postsecondary institution.
  5. Must show a commitment to communicate and interpret a love of nature and an understanding of need to practice conservation. Eligible fields of study include, but are not limited to, the following: environmental protection, forestry, wildlife and fisheries biology, parks and recreation, park management, environmental law and public policy, environmental art, and California history.

Description: This scholarship is available for upper division and graduate students in California colleges/universities who show a commitment to communicate and interpret a love of nature and an understanding of need to practice conservation. Eligible fields of study include, but are not limited to, the following: environmental protection, forestry, wildlife and fisheries biology, parks and recreation, park management, environmental law and public policy, environmental art, and California history.

Application requirements for the Emily M. Hewitt Memorial Scholarship are:

Additional Information: Eligibility for application is extended to any student or graduate student whose educational career goals clearly coincide with Emily Hewitt's interest in communicating and interpreting nature's wonder. Dedication to the ideals of the scholarship will be considered at least as important as financial need in making the award.

Award Amount: $1,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,500.

Additional information about this award and application procedures is available online at the Calaveras Big Trees Association (CBTA) website. In addition to a completed application, the student must submit the following: a statement of personal and career goals; a resume; a portfolio (if applicable) that consists of high-quality color photos of originals; and transcripts of all college work completed to date (unofficial transcripts accepted). The complete application packet must be sent to the address provided, and must be postmarked by the deadline date.
