Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to three awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must identify as LGBT or demonstrate a record of advocating for LGBT equality.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  4. Must be a resident of California or attend a medical school in California.
  5. Must attend an accredited medical school.
  6. This award is for U.S. students.

Description: This scholarship is available for undergraduate students in California who are majoring in a medical field. Applicants must identify as LGBT or demonstrate a history of campaigning for and working toward LGBT inclusion and equality.

Additional Information: eQuality has been formed through the joint effort of a group of individuals and organizations based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The organization began in 1989 as a scholarship program funded by Pacific Gas and Electric Company's lesbian and gay employee group, now PG&E PrideNetwork. The following year, the Bay Area Network of Gay and Lesbian Educators joined the effort. Additional members have joined eQuality over the years, and more are always welcome. Over the past 26 years, eQuality has awarded over 280 scholarships totaling more than $925,000. Selection of awards will be based on academic excellence, financial need, and the applicant's history of advocating for the rights and inclusion of LGBT individuals.

Award Amount: $6,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $6,000.

Applications may be completed online, or if this presents a hardship for the student, paper copies may be requested as PDF files that may be printed out and mailed to the scholarship provider at the address provided. Students must also submit a personal statement describing his or her contribution to the social environment through advocacy for LGBT individuals. All applications must be completed online or submitted by mail no later than the deadline date. In addition to completing the application, applicants for all scholarships must be available for an interview in March - either by phone or in person.
