  1. Must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this award.
  2. Must pursue a graduate degree in journalism.
  3. Must have applied to or be enrolled in an accredited graduate program in journalism at time of application.

Additional Information: This fellowship is named for Dennis Feldman, a club member who had a long career as a journalist and public relations adviser after putting himself through grad school at night. The National Press Club offers this one-year stipend to defray postgraduate tuition costs for graduate students in journalism.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications are available on the National Press Club (NPC) website under the 'Club Activities' tab.In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit three copies of the following items: three letters of recommendation (none from family members); a financial statement and/or copies of any documents he/she is providing to his/her university to qualify for financial assistance; a copy of his/her undergraduate transcript; a statement describing his/her course of study; a list of schools applied to or a letter of acceptance from the graduate program he/she is attending; and a brief biographical statement explaining why he/she wishes to obtain a graduate degree in journalism. The applicant also has the option to include work samples (three copies of each), including newspaper articles (no more than five; reduced to 8 1/2" by 11" size), or audio or video tapes. Please note: The National Press Club realizes that some journalism grad school applicants are seeking to change careers and therefore may not have clips or tapes. The applicant will not be penalized, but judges would like to see some work samples from applicants with journalism experience. All application materials MUST be included in one package. If application materials are not included in one package, the National Press Club will not process the application. Applications must be postmarked by the deadline.
