Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually based on the number of qualified applicants. Last year, eight scholarships were awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be enrolled in a Georgia college or university.
  4. Must be a resident of Georgia.
  5. Must be an upcoming college junior or senior.
  6. Must be enrolled in an accredited education program majoring in teaching/education.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for college juniors and seniors who are majoring in education. Students must be residents of and attend college in Georgia.

Application requirements for the GAE College Junior/Senior Scholarship for Future Teachers are:

  • Application form
  • Essay
  • Official Transcript
  • Recommendation letters (2)
Additional Information: Scholarship winners will be notified in May. Scholarship award winners must accept their award and enroll in a college or university by Dec. 31, in the year of application, or the winner will forfeit his/her scholarship award. Members or relatives of the Georgia Association of Educators Foundation board of directors are not eligible to receive scholarships or grants awarded by the Georgia Association of Educators Foundation.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable. Scholarship awards will be paid directly to the college or university the winner is attending. Proof of enrollment will be required prior to scholarship award payment.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available on the Georgia Association of Educators (GAE) website. In addition to his/her completed, signed application, the student must submit the following: an essay of 500 words or less, typed in 12-point or larger font, on the topic of "Why Did You Choose to Become a Teacher and What Do You Hope to Accomplish in This Profession?"; an official copy of his/her college or university transcript; and two sealed letters of recommendation. At least one of the letters should be from a professor, adviser, or other person from his/her college or university. Applications must be typed in 12-point font or printed with black ink. All pages of the application packet should be printed on one side only and not stapled. The application and all supporting materials must be submitted as one package to the address provided, postmarked on or before the deadline date.
