Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Maine.
  3. Must major in agriculture education, horticulture, floriculture, landscape design, botany, biology, plant pathology/science, forestry, agronomy, environmental concerns, economics, environmental conservation, city planning, wildlife science, habitat or forest/systems ecology, land management, and/or other related or allied subjects.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  5. Must be a college sophomore or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award. Please note that only master's degree candidates are eligible to apply; Ph.D. candidates are not eligible.

Description: This scholarship is available for Maine juniors, seniors, and master's students. Students must major in horticulture, floriculture, landscape design, conservation, forestry, botany, agronomy, plant pathology, environmental control, city planning and/or any other garden-related fields.

Application requirements for the GCFM Horticulture Scholarship are:

  • Personal statement
  • Recommendation letters (3)
  • Financial aid form
  • List of outside activities
Additional Information: The purpose of the GCFM Horticulture Scholarship is to encourage and financially aid students who are majoring in horticulture, floriculture, landscape design, conservation, forestry, botany, agronomy, plant pathology, environmental control, city planning and/or any other gardening related fields. All applicants will be judged on the following: aptitude in the field of horticulture; academic record; avocational interests and vocational potential; character; and financial need. *Please note: Applicants must not be related to a GCFM board member. Winners will be notified by May and invited to attend the GCFM Awards Luncheon in June.

Award Amount: $3,000 annually, non-renewable. Students can reapply each year if they still meet the qualifications.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Applications are available online on the Garden Club Federation of Maine (GCFM) website or by contacting the GCFM using the contact information listed. The application form must be typed or computer generated. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: a transcript; a personal letter of two pages or less that discusses goals, background, financial need, and personal commitment; a list of extracurricular activities; three typed letters of recommendation of one page each that address scholarship ability, personal qualities, and work-related experience; and the financial aid form (available online on the GCFM website). All application materials must be received at the email address listed by the deadline date.
