Number of Awards & Eligibility: Eight awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at a university for the upcoming academic year.
  4. Must intend to be enrolled in or accepted as a full-time student at a university in the United States for the upcoming academic year.
  5. Must maintain a strong academic performance.
  6. Must be pursuing a computer science or computer engineering degree or a degree in a closely-related technical field. Closely-related fields include: software engineering; electrical engineering (with a heavy computer science course load); computer engineering; information systems; information technology; applied networking; systems administration. The following fields are not considered closely related: civil engineering; mechanical engineering; industrial engineering.
  7. Must be a current student veteran (includes members of the National Guard or National Reserve) OR be a student on active duty. The student must have received an honorable discharge or currently be in good standing with his/her branch of service.

Description: This scholarship is open to current student veterans or active-duty military members who are full-time undergraduate or graduate students maintaining a strong academic performance. Students must be pursuing a computer science or computer engineering degree or a degree in a closely-related technical field.

Additional Information: Scholarship recipients will be invited to attend Google's Summer Annual Scholars' Retreat. The Scholars' Retreat provides an important networking opportunity for top students from all over the United States and Canada to meet with each other and with Google engineers in a personable, fun environment.

Award Amount: $10,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.

Applications are available online on the Student Veterans of America (SVA) website. In addition to a completed online application, each student must submit the following documents: a current copy of his/her resume or curriculum vitae (CV); an unofficial copy of his/her current university transcript; responses to the three essay questions listed on the SVA website (300 to 500 words per essay and compiled into one document); a copy of his/her DD214 or Active Duty orders and Memorandum of Understanding from his/her commanding officer; and two letters of reference from professors, advisers, or supervisors (must be signed and on official letterhead). The letters must be sent by the authors directly to SVA at the email or mailing addresses provided. The scholarship application will close at 11:59 p.m. on the deadline date.
