This award, established in 1996 through a bequest left by Agnes P. Cobb Yoakum, provides support to students from Blount, Loudon, or Knox counties in Tennessee who are pursuing a medical-related undergraduate degree. Preference will be given to applicants planning to attend school in Tennessee and work in the East Tennessee area following graduation. Factors to be considered by the selection committee will be: financial need; general aptitude for advanced educational work; evidence of participation in and service to the community; and the maturity and professionalism of the student, in that order of importance. The selection committee reserves the right to conduct brief interviews with finalists.
