Women's Transportation Seminar

Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a female.
  2. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  3. Must plan to to pursue a career in a transportation-related field.
  4. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  5. Must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program.
  6. Must be affiliated with one of the following WTS chapters: Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Canada, Central Florida, Central Illinois, Central Pennsylvania, Chicago, Colorado, Columbus, Connecticut Valley, Dallas/Fort Worth, Greater New York, Heart of Texas, Houston, Inland Empire, Los Angeles, Metro Phoenix, Michigan, Middle Tennessee, Minnesota, North Carolina, Orange County, Philadelphia, Portland, Puerto Rico, Puget Sound/Seattle, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, South Florida, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Tucson, Washington D.C., or Wisconsin.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: International and U.S. female graduate students who plan to pursue a career in a transportation-related field are eligible for this award. Students must be affiliated with a specific WTS chapter and have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Additional Information: Helene M. Overly was the first executive secretary of WTS. The board of directors voted to name the annual WTS graduate scholarship the Helene M. Overly Memorial Scholarship to honor Helene for her dedicated service to WTS. Helene became a WTS member in 1981, bringing with her 15 years of experience in public service, tremendous organizational abilities, and a spirit of determination that helped WTS nearly double its membership in two years. The scholarships are competitive and based on the applicant's specific transportation goals, academic record and transportation-related activities or job skills. Minority candidates are encouraged to apply.

Award Amount: $6,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $6,000.
