Number of Awards & Eligibility: Nine awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must major in political science, international relations, international business or public administration.
  3. Must plan to attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university as a full-time student (12 credits per semester).
  4. Must be a resident of Hawaii.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must demonstrate academic achievement with a grade point average of 2.7 or higher.
  7. Must be an undergraduate student.

Description: This scholarship is available for Hawaii undergraduate students who are majoring in political science, international relations, international business or public administration. Students must have a grade point average of 2.7 or higher.

Additional Information: The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to young men and women in Hawai'i ready to acquire knowledge and leadership skills in government and community affairs. Selection is based on leadership potential, scholastic achievement and financial need. All applicants must demonstrate financial need and good moral character. Recipients will be notified after the scholarship selection committees meet, which could be any time between May and August.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Online application forms are available on the Hawai'i Community Foundation website. The student should visit the Hawai'i Community Foundation's website for detailed instructions on how to complete the online application. In addition to the online application form, the student must submit the following supporting materials: the printed confirmation page that is generated after applying online; a typed, double-spaced personal statement of two to three pages answering the questions listed at the provider's website; an official copy of his/her most recent transcript; and a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report). The SAR is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. A student will not be able to submit his/her application until all required supporting documents are electronically attached to the application. Applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. HST on the deadline date.
