Number of Awards & Eligibility: Seven awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must plan to attend Boise State University.
  2. Must be a resident of Idaho.
  3. Must have a GPA of 2.00 or higher.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  5. Must be a first-year college freshman at the time of application.
  6. This award is for U.S. students.
  7. Must plan to major in business.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for current high school seniors residing in Idaho and planning to attend Idaho State University. Applicants must have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher and plan to major in business.

Application requirements for the Horatio Alger Boise State University Scholarship are:

  • Essay
  • Recommendation letter
  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • Student Aid Report (SAR)
Additional Information: This award is funded in memory of Robert G. Miller, a long-time member and contributor to the Horatio Alger Foundation.

Award Amount: $10,000, paid out in equal annual installments of $2,000 per year over five years. Students will remain eligible for funding so long as they maintain a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in late January for a refreshed application deadline date. Applications and information are available at the Horatio Alger Association website. In addition to the completed online applications, students must submit the following materials: the Support and Verification Form; a high school transcript; the Online Certifications Form (must be completed by applicant's high school); a copy of the front page of the applicant's parent/guardian's most recent individual federal tax return (1040, 1040A, 1040 EZ or 1099 SSA-Social Security Tax Form). If the applicant's parents/guardians were not required to file a tax return, include statement copies showing the amount of any government benefits, such as public assistance or disability payments. Transcripts may be uploaded or sent via postal mail. Faxes and emails will not be accepted for any application materials. All applications and supporting documents must be completed online and received by the deadline date.
