Number of Awards & Eligibility: 42 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must major in food science/technology.
  3. Must attend one of the IFT-approved colleges or universities.
  4. Must be a current college sophomore, junior or senior to apply.
  5. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for U.S. college sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are majoring in food science at an IFT-approved university. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Application requirements for the IFT Undergraduate Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • Recommendation letter
Additional Information: Two named scholarships are given under this program that require specific eligibility criteria. Students should check the website for more information. All previous IFT undergraduate scholarship winners must be an IFT member to be eligible for another scholarship award.

Award Amount: Awards range from $500 to $2,500 depending on the type of award. All awards are offered annually and are non-renewable. Students must submit a new application each year. Awards will be distributed in two equal payments, one on Aug. 15 and one on Jan. 15.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,500.

Applications are available on the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) website. The completed application must be submitted to the department head of the educational institution that the student is planning to attend. The application should not be sent to IFT. All applications must be typed and in English. In addition to a completed application, the student must submit the following: an official copy of his/her transcript(s) of all undergraduate and graduate university work completed to date; and a letter of recommendation from a dean, department head, and/or professor who has supervised his/her most recent academic work. The letter should present essential facts regarding the student's scholastic record; character and personality; interest and capability in research; ability to cooperate; capacity for work; and extracurricular activities. All submitted documents must be received by the deadline date.
