In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a part-time student.
  4. Must demonstrate a commitment to teaching American history, American government, and/or social studies.
  5. Must have teaching experience.
  6. Must be committed to teaching full time at the secondary level (grades 7 through 12).
  7. Must be a college graduate at time of application.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available for U.S. teachers who wish to undertake work for a graduate degree with a focus on the U.S. constitution on a part-time basis. Each fellow is required to attend a four-week Summer Institute on the Constitution held in July at Georgetown University and must agree to teach constitutional issues or history for at least one year following his/her graduation.

Application requirements for the James Madison Senior Fellowship Program are:

Additional Information: The foundation offers two fellowships: 'junior' fellowships are awarded to outstanding college seniors and college graduates without teaching experience; and 'senior' fellowships are awarded to superior current teachers. Applicants receiving senior fellowships have five years to complete their programs. In addition, each fellow is required to attend the foundation's Summer Institute during the term of the fellowship. The four-week Summer Institute is held at Georgetown University each summer. Upon graduation, fellows must teach for one full year for each academic year of aid received under a fellowship, preferably in the state from which the recipient won the fellowship.

Award Amount: $24,000  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $24,000.
