Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must have a B+ or higher average in technical and mathematics courses.
  3. Must be studying metrology or another related topic in the quality-assurance field.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  5. Must be a current undergraduate and/or graduate college student.

Additional Information: The Joe D. Simmons Scholarship fosters the furtherance of metrology through education by striving to: support the academic pursuit of a metrology career by worthy students; promote and improve measurement science education and educational opportunity; encourage talented individuals to enter the field of metrology; and stimulate professionalism in metrology.

Award Amount: $3,000 annually, non-renewable. The award is to be administered by the school of the recipient, and can be used to cover tuition, fees, books, and incidental academic expenses for the winning scholar.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Applications are available online from the NCSL International website or by contacting the foundation using the email address (preferred), postal address or telephone number provided. In addition to the completed application, each student must submit a list of courses that he/she has taken and plans to take in pursuit of a degree; an endorsement from one or more of the school faculty teaching metrology or quality-related subjects; a transcript of grades in all courses to date; and an essay of no more than 1,000 words indicating metrology and quality concepts learned and applied in academic or work settings, and describing the student's career aspirations. All applications and supporting materials must be received by the scholarship committee by the deadline date.
