Number of Awards & Eligibility: Four awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  2. This award is for U.S. students.
  3. Must be a member of the Detroit AIST or dependent of a chapter member.
  4. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  5. Must be majoring in engineering.
  6. Must plan to pursue a career in the steel and iron industry.

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. high school seniors and undergraduate students in Detroit, MI who are planning to major in engineering and pursue a career in iron and steel technology. Applicants must be AIST members or dependents of AIST members.

Additional Information: The AIST Judith A. Quinn Detroit Member Chapter Scholarship award is intended to reward and attract talented and dedicated students and encourage them to pursue careers within the iron and steel industry. The Detroit Member Chapter administers the scholarship. High school seniors and undergraduate students are encouraged to apply. Students may re-apply each year. AIST Foundation Scholarship awards are intended to attract talented and dedicated students and to encourage them to pursue careers within the iron and steel industry. The AIST Foundation Board of Trustees administers the scholarships. Please note: Students must be AIST members or dependents of AIST members to apply for this award.

Award Amount: Two awards for $5,000 and two awards for $2,500. Although awards are not automatically renewable, previous recipients are eligible to apply in future years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,750.

Applications are available online on the Association for Iron and Steel Technology (AIST) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: a current resume with work experience and any extracurricular activities, noting any leadership positions; one essay of up to 500 words describing one of the topics on the application; three letters of recommendation; a copy of SAT and/or ACT test score reports; and a current high school transcript. The application and all supporting materials must be submitted online and must be received no later than the deadline date.
