Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a practicing artist whose service has enriched his/her community.
  4. Must reside in Durham, Wake, Orange, or Chatham counties.
  5. Must demonstrate significant contribution to his/her community. Service may be participation in organizations promoting artists or the arts; involvement in the public schools, teaching arts classes, individual tutoring, or art appreciation; through the creation of a piece of art; or a performance that enhances the life of the Triangle and is accessible to all members of the community.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Additional Information: The Kathryn H. Wallace Award for Artists in Community Service was created by Kathryn H. Wallace, Contributions Officer at GlaxoSmithKline from 1987 until her death in August 1991 and a longtime community volunteer in the arts. This award is given annually to recognize an individual practicing artist residing in Wake, Durham, Orange, or Chatham county who has made a significant contribution to the Triangle community. It is anticipated that the forms of community service provided by the award recipients will be as varied as the artists and the art forms themselves. The common thread is that the community is in some way enriched by the artist’s service. The award decision will be announced in late May.

Award Amount: $800 annually, non-renewable. The use of the monetary award is at the complete discretion of the recipient. The recipient is asked to report to the foundation on the use of funds, and it is hoped that he/she will continue and even expand his/her service to the community upon receiving the award. In addition, the recipient will receive a lithograph of an Edith London collage that commemorates the creation of the award.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $800.

Additional information is available online from the Triangle Community Foundation. To apply, a nomination form must be submitted. A nomination is welcome from an eligible local artist or from an individual in the community on behalf of a practicing artist. In addition to the form, the artist or nominator must submit responses to the four questions listed on the application that are no more than two pages in length. Application materials must be submitted online by the deadline date.
