In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must have been a member of the Soil and Water Conservation Society for one year or more.
  3. Must pursue an interdisciplinary investigation that examines methods of conserving or improving land management and water quality.
  4. Must be from a region that has a Soil and Water Conservation Society chapter. This includes the United States and Canada.
  5. Must be eligible for graduate work at an accredited institution.

Description: This scholarship is available for graduate students who have been members of the Soil and Water Conservation Society for a year or more; students must live in a region that has a SWCS chapter (this includes the United States and Canada). Students must pursue an interdisciplinary investigation that examines methods of conserving or improving land management and water quality.

Additional Information: The Kenneth E. Grant Scholarship provides financial aid to members of Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS) for graduate-level research on a specific conservation topic that will extend the SWCS mission of fostering the science and the art of soil, water, and related natural resource management to achieve sustainability. SWCS actively promotes multi-disciplinary research. An applicant for the Kenneth E. Grant Research Scholarship must have demonstrated integrity, ability, and competence to complete the specified study topic; be eligible for graduate work at an accredited institution; and show reasonable need for financial assistance.

Award Amount: $300 to $500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $400.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in January for a refreshed application deadline date. Additional information can be found on the Soil and Water Conservation Society website. The student should submit a proposal of three pages or less for completing the specified project. The project should examine 'Managing Great River Landscapes'. Research proposals should show the use of an investigative methodology that demonstrates an understanding of the relationships between various disciplines and suggests an approach integrating this knowledge into action. Included in the proposal should be a budget for the project as well as material supporting the student's ability to meet the eligibility requirements. The application must be submitted by the deadline date, and the project proposal may be submitted via the application or emailed, faxed, or mailed using the contact information provided.
