Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Hawaii.
  3. Must plan to attend an accredited college or university as a full-time student.
  4. Must demonstrate academic achievement with a grade point average of 2.7 or higher.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must be majoring in nursing.
  7. Must be a currently enrolled graduate student at time of application.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for Hawaii graduate students who are majoring in nursing. Students must have a grade point average of 2.7 or higher.

Additional Information: This scholarship was created in memory of Dr. Laura Jean Armstrong, a nurse extraordinaire. Beginning her professional career as a registered nurse in private practice, Dr. Armstrong joined the Hawai'i State Department of Health in 1968. As a public servant, she passionately worked to improve the health and welfare of the underserved until her untimely death. All applicants must demonstrate financial need and good moral character. Recipients will be notified after the scholarship selection committees meet, which could be any time between May and August.

Award Amount: $4,000 annually, non-renewable. Students may reapply each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.

Online application forms are available on the Hawai'i Community Foundation website. The student should visit the provider's website for detailed instructions on how to complete the online application. In addition to the online application form, the student must submit the following supporting materials: the printed confirmation page that is generated after applying online; a typed, double-spaced personal statement of two to three pages answering the questions listed at the provider's website; an official copy of his/her most recent transcript; and a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report). The SAR is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. A student will not be able to submit his/her application until all required supporting documents are electronically attached to the application. The application must be submitted by 4 p.m. HST on the deadline date.
