Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three scholarships awarded annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be currently enrolled in a graduate program at the time of application.
  3. Must be majoring in library science.
  4. Must be a resident of, attending college in, or planning to work in California upon graduation.
  5. Must be a minority student.

Description: This award is available to minority students who are currently enrolled in a graduate program related to library science. Applicants must be residents of California and/or intend to work in California upon graduation.

Additional Information: Edna Yelland graduated from the California State Library School in Sacramento, obtained a County Librarians Certificate and served as the librarian for Tuolumne County and then San Mateo County. She later headed the Cutting Branch of Richmond Public Library and, from this position, became executive secretary of the California Library Association from 1947 to 1963. It is in memory of this gracious woman who worked so hard to promote the goals of the association and of the profession that the Edna Yelland scholarships are awarded.

Award Amount: $2,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Information about this award is available at the California Library Association website at the address provided. In addition to the completed application form, students must submit the following items: Explanation of his/her current financial situation; List of scholarships and financial aid for which the student intends to apply; Names and addresses of the educational institutions the student has attended; Listing of all employers, dates of employment, and a brief description of responsibilities for any library experience; Information about volunteer experiences; Names and contact information for two professional references; and an essay discussing the applicant's interest in librarianship, academic or professional goals, and how this scholarship would help achieve those goals. The essay should include all of these topics, be grammatically correct, and be 1,000 words or less. All applications and supporting documents must be submitted online by the deadline date.
