Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually and is dependent on funding.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be the dependent of an active duty Air Force, Air Force Reserve or Air National Guard enlisted airman.
  4. Must have a parent or guardian employed by the Air Force (active or reserve) or Air National Guard.
  5. Must be a minor.
  6. Must be a high school graduate planning to enroll as an incoming freshman in the fall. The applicant must provide proof of acceptance to a college or university.
  7. Must pursue an undergraduate degree in the area of science, technology, engineering or math (STEM).

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: U.S. incoming college freshmen who are the minor dependents of active duty Air Force, Air Force Reserve or Air National Guar enlisted airmen are eligible for this award. Financial need and academic need will be considered.

Application requirements for the Lt Col Romeo and Josephine Bass Ferretti Scholarship are:

  • Proof of accept.
Additional Information: Recipients will be selected by committee based upon high academic achievement, good character and financial need. Once the recipients are selected, the AFA will notify them with a letter of congratulations.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, non-renewable. The recipients? college or university will receive the check in September, which can be used for any education related expense.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications are available online form the Air Force Association (AFA) website and are accepted beginning in January through April 30. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit a typed, two-page, double-spaced essay describing his/her academic achievements and goals and how the scholarship will help him/her achieve those goals; one letter of recommendation from a teacher, a supervisor or the director of an organization in which he/she participates; an official, original high school transcript; a photo (preferably a headshot); and proof of acceptance into an accredited college/university indicating his/her intended major as well as a statement of the cost of tuition and fees for the first term of attendance. Applications and supporting materials must be submitted online by the deadline. No exceptions will be made, and early applications are strongly encouraged.
