Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must major in painting or another fine art.
  2. Must have a grade point average of 2.75 or higher.
  3. This award is for U.S. students.
  4. Must be an undergraduate student at the time of application.
  5. Must be a resident of Kent County, Michigan.
  6. Must demonstrate unmet financial need.

Description: This award is available for Kent County, Michigan residents who are pursuing an undergraduate degree in pating or other fine arts. Applicants must have a grade point average of 2.75 or higher and demonstrate unmet financial need.

Additional Information: The Grand Rapids Community Foundation awards hundreds of scholarships annually, primarily to Kent County students bound for or in college, or those pursuing a technical career. This award, provided each year in honor of Mathilda & Carolyn Gallmeyer, is given to a Kent County resident who is pursuing an undergraduate degree in painting, or other fine arts. Selection is based on artistic talent, academic record, and financial need.

Award Amount: Awards range from $500 to $5,000 depending on the student's unmet need and the availability of funds. Average awards are about $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications and information are available at the Grand Rapids Community Foundation website at the address provided. In addition to the online application form, an interested student must submit transcripts (official or unofficial), an essay describing his/her personal and professional aspirations, and documentation such as the FAFSA Student Aid report that proves financial need. All applications must be submitted online by the deadline date.
