Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, two undergraduate scholarships and one graduate scholarship were awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must attend the University of Central Florida.
  3. Must major in the field of technical communication (technical writing, editing, graphic design or multimedia art).
  4. Must enroll as a full-time student.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must be a high school graduate or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available for U.S undergraduate and/or graduate students who are majoring in the field of technical communication (technical writing, editing, graphic design or multimedia art). Students must attend the University of Central Florida.

Application requirements for the Melissa Pellegrin Memorial Scholarship Fund are:

  • Transcript (official or unofficial)
  • Personal statement
Additional Information: The Melissa Pellegrin Memorial Scholarship Fund was founded to honor and preserve the memory and generous spirit of a valued friend and professional colleague, Melissa Pellegrin. She was a 1994 graduate of the University of Central Florida and a member of the STC Orlando Chapter.

Award Amount: The amount of each award varies annually. In previous years, the undergraduate award was $500, and the graduate award was $350. All awards are offered annually and are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $450.

Applications are available on the Society for Technical Communication (STC) Orlando Chapter website. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also attach a copy of his/her transcript and highlight all technical writing courses on the transcripts (a graduate student should submit transcripts for graduate work only). The applicant must also send a letter to the STC Education Committee Manager at the address indicated and discuss in the letter why he/she chose this discipline, his/her definition of a technical communicator and why he/she wants to become a technical communicator. The applicant may also discuss his/her need for financial aid, if applicable. The letter should not exceed two pages and should meet the requirements of a good business letter. In addition to the required materials, the applicant may also include any other factors he/she would want the education committee to consider, such as financial need, academic honors and acccomplishments, community service, etc. All application materials must be received at the email address listed on the Melissa Pellegrin Memorial Scholarship Fund flier, no later than 5 p.m. on the deadline date.
