Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of the United States.
  3. Must be 25 to 35 years of age as of competition entry.
  4. Must have achieved a significant degree of success as an emerging artist of noteworthy talent in painting.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students between the ages of 25 and 35. Students must submit images of five recent paintings to be eligible for the scholarship.

Additional Information: Applicants do not have to attend Miami University (MU) in Ohio to enter the contest. Entrants should have achieved a significant degree of success as an emerging artist of noteworthy talent. The winner will become part of the Miami University Best Young Painters of the Twenty-First Century Collection. Images of the finalists' works will be retained by MU. All finalists will assume the cost of shipment of the artwork to MU. The university will assume the cost of return shipping the finalists' paintings. Work will be fully insured while on the premises of MU and while being returned to the artist. The $10,000 scholarship winner may be invited to visit MU and will also have a one-person exhibition to coincide with the competition. Participation in the exhibition entry process constitutes an understanding and acceptance of the conditions set forth herein, including the right of MU to use submitted images for publicity and educational purposes.

Award Amount: Awards will be distributed as follows: one William and Dorothy Yeck Purchase Award of $10,000; one second-place award of $1,500; and one third-place award of $1,000. All awards are made on an annual basis and are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,167.

Entry forms are available on the Miami University (Ohio) website. The 2017 competition focuses on non-representational sculpture, only.To enter, the student must submit five images of his/her recent paintings which are indicative of the breadth of his/her talent, creativity, and proficiency. The pieces must have been created in the last three years. All images submitted should be on CD or thumb drive, in .jpg format, 5" x 7", 355 dpi, RGB color mode. The disc must be organized with each .jpg having an image title.The student must also a prepare a Word document with the following information: artist's name; title of work; year; media; and dimensions. The Word document must be titled "Image List", and the image numbers should correspond with the artwork number on the entry form.A complete entry must include the entry form, CD, "Image List" Word document, and a resume, a check made payable to Miami University for $25, and a self-addressed stamped envelope (with correct postage) for return of the disc (if needed).All entry materials should be submitted in a well-protected 9" x 12" mailing envelope to the mailing address provided. The entry packet must be postmarked by the deadline date.
