Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. In the past, three scholarships have been awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must major in accounting.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  4. Must attend a college or university in Massachusetts.
  5. Must be of African-American descent.
  6. Must be a college sophomore, junior, or senior at the time of application.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Massachusetts residents of African American descent who are enrolled full-time in a state college or university are eligible for this award. Students must have completed the first semester of their sophomore year, demonstrate superior academic standing and financial need, and intend to pursue a career as a certified public accountant.

Application requirements for the MSCPA/NABA Scholarship are:

Additional Information: The scholarship program is designed to recognize and encourage today's African American students who will become tomorrow's accountants. The MSCPA's Educational Foundation promotes the accounting profession to both high school and college students. All awards will be presented at the society's annual awards ceremony, scheduled for May 14 in Boston, MA. Scholarship funds can be used at the discretion of the individual, e.g., for tuition, books, interviewing expenses, etc.

Award Amount: $2,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Applications are available online on the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants, Inc. (MSCPA) website. Only one application is needed to apply for all MSCPA scholarships. In addition to the completed application, the applicant must submit the following: an official transcript; one letter of recommendation from an accounting professor; an essay of 200 words or less describing his/her career goals and why he/she feels he/she will be a successful CPA; and a copy of his/her FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or other type of college loan application form, or his/her latest tax return. Please note: The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Completed application packets must be sent to the address provided and be received by the deadline date.
