In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must pursue a career in videography.
  2. This award is for U.S. students.
  3. Must attend a college or university in one of the following areas: Northern California (Visalia to the Oregon border); Hawaii; or Reno, Nevada.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  5. Must have completed at least one undergraduate academic year of television studies, or be enrolled in a graduate program in television. The student must also have at least one year remaining of undergraduate or graduate study.

Additional Information: The NATAS San Francisco/Northern California Chapter awards scholarships to encourage individuals who demonstrate leadership and talent in advancing the artistic, cultural, educational, and technical qualities of television. The applicant must have one year or more left of school. College seniors can apply only if they plan on using the award for graduate school. Preference will be given to students pursuing a career in videography. Scholarships will be presented at the Annual Northern California Area Emmy Awards.

Award Amount: $3,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Applications are available on the NATAS Northern California Chapter website by clicking on the 'Foundation' link. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must submit the following: a copy of his/her transcripts, indicating his/her grade point average; a one-page essay summarizing his/her television, academic and work experience, related activities and personal goals; the names and contact phone numbers of two faculty references; and a VHS videocassette showing only edited segments of video he/she has shot, not to exceed 30 minutes. A completed videotape information form must accompany the videocassette. Tapes and scripts will not be returned. Each entry must be labeled with the applicant's name and category on the cassette.All application materials must be postmarked by the deadline.
