Number of Awards & Eligibility: Seven awards offered annually. The Klussendorf Association will award three scholarships, and the McKown/Klussendorf Fund will award four scholarships.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must attend a two- or four-year college in the U.S. or Canada.
  3. Must be in his/her first, second, or third year of college.
  4. Must major in a dairy science, animal science, agri-business, or other related curriculum that will develop the skills needed to pursue a career in the dairy industry.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: U.S. and Canadian students in their first, second, or third years at a two- or four-year college or university who plan to pursue a career in the dairy industry are eligible to apply for this award. Applicants must demonstrate leadership, participation in extracurricular activities, and a special interest and ability in showing dairy cattle in their best natural form.

Additional Information: Applicants must demonstrate leadership, participation in extracurricular activities, and a special interest and ability in showing dairy cattle in their best natural form. Past, present or potential members of dairy cattle judging teams will receive special consideration. Youth affiliated with all dairy breeds are encouraged to apply; however, the McKown scholarships will give preference to youth from predominantly Holstein backgrounds. The winners will be recognized at the National Dairy Shrine Awards Banquet.

Award Amount: $1,500 annually, non-renewable. Previous scholarship winners may not reapply; previous applicants who did not win a scholarship may reapply if still qualified.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,500.

Applications are available on the National Dairy Shrine (NDS) website. Each student should download the application and type in his/her responses. The file should then be saved as KLU.Last Name.First Name.doc and emailed to the address provided. The applicant must also submit an official transcript showing all college courses and grades. The transcript must be mailed to the address provided. (Only one transcript is required for all scholarships for which the student wishes to apply, although separate applications must be submitted.) Applications must be submitted by midnight CST on the deadline date.
