Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  2. Must be majoring in piano or voice.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.
  5. Must be a current undergraduate or graduate student.

Description: This award is for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a degree in piano or voice. Applicants must have a 3.0 grade point average.

Application requirements for the Nellie Love Butcher Music Scholarship are:

  • Official Transcript
  • Recommendation letters (2-4)
  • Proof of citizenship
Additional Information: Awards are based on academic excellence, commitment to field of study, and/or financial need, or other restrictions on specific scholarships. No affiliation with DAR is necessary unless specified. Scholarships are awarded regardless of race, religion, sex or national origin. Only winners are notified by the National DAR Scholarship Chairman following the approval of a ruling by the executive committee of the NSDAR.

Award Amount: An award of up to $5,000 annually is offered. The award is not automatically renewable; however, recipients may reapply for consideration each year, for up to four years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

The application form may be found on the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) website. In addition to a completed application, applicants must submit: original transcripts; a photocopy of U.S. citizenship; a self-addressed stamped postcard; two to four letters of recommendation; a personal statement of 1,000 words or less describing career objectives; list of extracurricular activities; and a CD of his/her performance. The application form is available from the DAR website. All applications must be sen to the provided address and all supporting materials must be mailed in one package. Application packages must be received by the deadline date.
