Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a native-born or naturalized U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a college sophomore at time of application.
  4. Must major in music education at a college or university which has a music education department offering a degree in same.

Application requirements for the NFMC Myrtle Mehan/Hazel Morgan Music Education Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • $5 app. fee
  • Membership fee (if not a member)
  • Recommendation letters (2)
Additional Information: This award is funded by the Myrtle Mehan and Hazel Morgan Legacies.

Award Amount: $600 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $600.

Applications are available online on the National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC) website by clicking on the 'Student Collegiate Division' link. In addition to a completed application, the student must submit the following materials: a check made out to NFMC for the $5 application fee; a check for $16 for NFMC individual student membership dues, if the student is not already a member through his/her institution; and two letters of recommendation, one from the head of the music education department and one from the dean of the school of music or from another music professor. The letters must address the topics listed on the application, and must be sent under separate cover. All application materials must be mailed to the address provided, and must be received by the deadline date.
