Description: This scholarship is available for international and U.S. graduate students who are engaging in research in organic and/or sustainable agriculture.

Additional Information: The mission of the OCIA Research and Education Board is to provide information and education to organic producers and the general public regarding organic farming practices. The information is gathered through research and field trial methods, and is compiled in a way to provide proper answers to specific organic questions. OCIA established this scholarship to encourage study and research in the area of organic agriculture. The scholarship winner must present a written summary at the conclusion of his/her research project to OCIA Research & Education and make a presentation to a local OCIA chapter.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable. Funds will be forwarded directly to the scholarship winner. Before funds are released, the winner must provide a brief biography and a photo, and consent to have both appear in OCIA promotional materials.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online on the Organic Crop Improvement Association (OCIA) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: a summary of three pages or less in 12-point font with 1-inch margins outlining his/her proposed research in organic and/or sustainable agriculture (this summary must follow certain guidelines as stated on the application); a letter from his/her college adviser or supervising faculty indicating that the research project has been accepted and is supported by the institution; and two letters of support from faculty who are acquainted with his/her capabilities, activities, and accomplishments. Forms for these letters are available on the OCIA website. All applications must be typed and compatible with Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, or Rich Text Format (12-point font, single spaced, 1-inch margins). Applications must be submitted electronically to the email address listed. No submissions or support documents will be accepted after the deadline date. Only one application per individual may be submitted.
