Number of Awards & Eligibility: On award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. and international students.
  2. Must be a college junior or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.
  3. Must major in and pursue a career in welding engineering or welding engineering technology with an emphasis on brazing and soldering applications.
  4. Must be 18 years of age or older at time of application.
  5. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in all engineering courses.
  6. Must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available for U.S. and Canadian college juniors, seniors, and graduate students who are pursuing a career in welding engineering or welding engineering technology with an emphasis on brazing and soldering applications. Students must also have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher an attend an institution in the U.S. or Canada.

Application requirements for the Robert L. Peaslee-Detroit Brazing and Soldering Division Scholarship are:

  • Statement of unmet financial need
Additional Information: Financial need is not required to qualify. Please note: The applicant does not have to be a member of the American Welding Society, but it is preferred.

Award Amount: $2,500 annually, non-renewable; however, persons who have received this award may be granted the award for a maximum of two years by reapplying.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Applications are available online on the American Welding Society (AWS) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must also submit the following: two letters of reference with one letter of reference indicating previous hands-on welding experience; a personal statement; original official transcript(s) sent directly from the college or university (if applying for more than one scholarship, only one transcript must be an original official transcript); verification of enrollment; an essay as specified on the application; and a statement of unmet financial need. Students must also file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by the deadline date. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The application and all supporting materials must be submitted online by the deadline date.
