The number of awards offered varies annually. It is determined by the trustees and is based on the quality of applications received and funding available.
As a community service, SAR provides an annual scholarship to qualified applicants to encourage higher education efforts. The scholarship is funded primarily by SAR member donations The following guidelines are considered: grade point average, quality of essay, qualities of applicant, financial need, educational goals, and whether or not the applicant is a relative of realtor, affiliate or deceased member. Students do receive extra points in the process for having a family member who is a member of the association, or top students who have a goal of becoming a real estate agents or brokers. While it is not a requirement, it definitely is a consideration in choosing between equally deserving students. Each scholarship recipient will receive notification of the award and award amount in late April.
